Creative Thinking for Social Innovation

Katja Tschimmel, Senior Consultant | Managing Partner NA’MENTE / MINDSHAKE

Date and Time

Thu Sep 11 14:00 CEST / 15:00 EEST

Description

In a world increasingly shaped by complexity, inequality, and cultural fragmentation, creative thinking emerges as a vital skill for generating inclusive, human-centred solutions. This talk explores how specific cognitive mechanisms of creative thinking can be consciously activated and applied to address social innovation challenges—especially those related to belonging, intercultural connection, and community building, as highlighted in the ReBel project.

We will introduce four key categories of creative thinking: Perception – seeing differently to challenge assumptions Interrogation – asking better questions to shift perspectives Comparison – using analogies and associations to create bridges Language – naming, translating, and expressing the new

Through a dynamic mix of theory and hands-on activities, participants will experience short exercises that activate each skill. These are designed to stimulate dialogue between disciplines, while reflecting the tensions often encountered in communication and innovation work:

  • Strategy vs Creativity
  • Global consistency vs Local relevance
  • Data-driven logic vs Emotional storytelling
  • wheel of accessibility: 8 parts of accessibility

The talk is both conceptual and experiential, inviting participants to reflect on how divergent thinking can foster empathetic, cross-cultural, and transformative design practices in service of more inclusive communities and narratives.
