Online Event: Social Co-Design – Creating a More Sustainable Society through Design

We warmly welcome you to learn more about Social Co-Design: Creating a More Sustainable Society through Design!

How can design serve as a tool for societal change? Hilkka Lydén (Laurea) will discuss the role of social design in addressing complex or wicked societal problems and strengthening communities based on her doctoral research for the University of Lapland’s Faculty of Art and Design. She will present practical examples and methods that support the effectiveness of actions aimed towards social change.

The event is organized by Laurea University of Applied Science’s Service Design and Co-creation Thematic Team and the ReBel – Redesign Belonging project online Thursay 24 April 2025 9.00-10.30 (EEST UCT +3) via Zoom.

Laurea’s Service Design and Co-creation Thematic Team is a multidisciplinary community of experts, including members from various research programs and educational backgrounds. This Thematic Team provides an interface for encounters and new innovations, as it promotes the knowledge and skills of inclusive (service) design, human-centered, and sustainable (planetary) development. Its purpose is to support the development of education, generate new project ideas, foster collaboration, disseminate expertise, and anticipate long-term competence needs. ReBel – Redesign Belonging project aims to foster solidarity and promote sense of belonging among migrant women, especially for women who have been in home countries for more than five years. By involving migrant women, design enthusiasts and professional designers to work together, the project aims to develop innovative models and solutions for integration, tailored to various contexts within the EU.

In the Redesign Belonging (ReBel) project, we are organizing workshops to build a better understanding of the needs and challenges that migrant women are experiencing when immigrating to Finland. We need to hear your voice and share experiences as migrants about the obstacles you have faced, and continue to face, in integrating into the new home society. Join us in an inspirational Design Jam where we discuss issues but also co-create solutions together!
